SUMMARY:

A Permanent Building Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing instruction, classroom management, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Permanent Building Substitutes are expected to fulfill all assignments in any school/subject/grade level. This is for a 1 year position. Farley is seeking 2 candidates. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSILBILITES:

  • Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building for daily assignment.
  • Reviews with the principal all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
  • Consults with the principal and/or staff to resolve questions and/or concerns.
  • Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which s/he is assigned.
  • Develops and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Works cooperatively with staff.
  • Respects student privacy by maintaining confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Teaches the lesson outlined and as prepared by the absent teacher.
  • Consults as appropriate, with the building principal before initiating any teaching or other procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for overseeing student behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods.
  • Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
  • Performs any other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the Principal or designee may from time to time assign.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • Availability to work Monday- Friday School hours (6.5 hours)
  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints

Preferred:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • At least two (2) years relevant experience

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTIES: None.

 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: None required.

 

WORK YEAR:

  • This is a 1 year position with the potential for renewal
  • 10 months. 180 work days, 3 personal days, 12 sick days (prorated pursuant to hire date) 6.5 hours/day - follow's students hours and schedule. 
  • This is a salaried position with a lump sum payout for the summer
  • Benefit Eligible on start date. 30 days to enroll in coverage from start date.

While performing duties of this job, the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods, and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff members, and the public in person and on the telephone.
