SUMMARY:
The Special Education Teacher will create and deliver engaging lessons that align with the goals and objectives on the current Individualized Education Plans (IEP).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Design and carryout developmentally appropriate lessons and activities as warranted by IEP goals/MA curriculum framework.
- Implement behavior and incentive plans and maintain data to support children’s behavior and social emotional needs.
- Guide classroom support staff in implementing activities that support student goals.
- Provide direct individual and/or group instruction.
- Teachers will work with parents/guardians to schedule walk-in services.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field
- MASS DESE Certified; Moderate disabilities PK-12
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
- Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse occasionally throughout the school building.
- The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs. (i.e. books, school supplies, etc.).
- The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools.
- Occasionally s/he operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer).
- In the classroom, the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction.
- The employee will be working in a typical school environment with an acceptable level of noise.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and ESY schedule established by the Superintendent of Schools in conjunction with the HEA/HSC Collective Bargaining Agreement.
ESY WORK YEAR:
Inclusion Preschool (1) July 1 to July 24 - 4 days a week - 3 hours
Substantially Separate Preschool (1) July 1 to August 8 - 4 days a week - 3 hours
Substantially Separate K - 4 (3) July 1 to August 8 - 4 days a week - 5 hours
Substantially Separate 5 -7 (1) July 1 to August 8 - 4 days a week - 4 hours
Substantially Separate Teacher & Walk-in Services 8 - 12 (1) July 1 to August 1 - 4 days a week - 4 hours
Language Based Classroom (1) 3 - 7 July 1 to July 25 - 4 days a week - 3 hours
Walk-in Services for ELA/Math (1) K - 7 July 1 to July 25 - 4 days a week - 3 hours
Walk-in Services for Specialized Reading (1) July 1 to July 25 *Flexible days/times
