Position:                  ESY Paraprofessional, Special Education Instructional 

Reports to:               ESY Coordinator

SUMMARY: The Hudson Public Schools is looking for Paraedcuators for the Extended School Year Summer program. This person will work with students with learning disabilities or literacy/math difficulties, learn and apply individual instructional procedures; oversee students with special needs and perform related work assigned. Provide co-teaching, small group or one-to-one instruction.

 

Schedule & Pay:

Program start date = 7/1/2024

 

ESY paraprofessionals will work between 2 - 4 mornings a week, 3 hours a day, for 4 weeks depending on the assigned program. Additional time may be available based on the number of students attending. 

 

Internal Staff Pay = current pay rate

New staff = $20.00/hour

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions or duties listed below are illustrations of the type of work that is performed and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for by this position. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Implement students IEP accommodations and modifications under the direction of the SPED IEP Liaison
  • Provide small group or one-to-one instruction and communicate lesson objectives clearly
  • Provide Positive feedback to students on their progress
  • Guide students to use appropriate instructional resources to support learning and reading, writing, and mathematics in accordance with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
  • Maintain and model high standards and appropriate expectations of behavior, mutual respect, and classroom safety for all students
  • Will interact with students, and other staff members in a professional manner 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. The Superintendent may waive or modify the qualification requirements.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward children
  • Ability to carry out assigned duties safely and effectively
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions of classroom teacher, building administrator, and IEP requirements
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form
  • Understand confidentiality requirements regarding student academic, special education, and medical records
  • Understand responsibilities as a mandated reporter under state law
  • Ability to implement emergency preparedness procedures when circumstances require
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies

Qualifications/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma/GED required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Passing score on Highly Qualified Paraeducator Exam required for applicants without education beyond High School Diploma/GED.
  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about to provide services and may be required to occasionally traverse throughout the school building. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will have essential duties requiring him/her to work in a classroom with the ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, bend or twist at the neck and trunk. The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Occasionally operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). The employee must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students and other staff members in person and on the telephone. In the classroom, the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise. The employee interacts with students and other staff members and occasionally must meet multiple demands from several people. While the majority of the work day is spent inside, the employee may spend time outdoors for recess, fire drills, and special activities.
