Statement of Duties:
The position performs skilled plumbing work on Hudson, MA School Facilities, requiring the use of judgement to estimate, plan and perform installation, maintenance and repair of hot water heating, water supply, drainage and disposal systems in accordance with regulatory codes and best practices for all school buildings.
Supervision:
The employee works under the general supervision of the Assistant Facilities Director/Director. Employee is familiar with the work routine and uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently with specific instruction. Questionable cases are referred to the supervisor for clarification or interpretation. Work is reviewed only to an extent sufficient to keep the supervisor aware of progress, and to ensure work methods used are technically accurate and that instructions are being followed. The Town utilizes a work order system that generates items requiring attention and is the vehicle for the employee to close out the completion of said work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Installs and repairs water lines, plumbing fixtures, circulating and condensate pumps.
- Implements protocols related to equipment operation and maintenance, preventative and routine while maintaining records of such work.
- Cares for the routine and preventative maintenance on all plumbing systems, valves, faucets, sinks, water fountains, in accordance with established protocols.
- Opens clogged drains and performs all manual duties related to plumbing work.
- Prepares scopes of work for outside contractor bidding purposes, obtains quotes and supervises the work in accordance with MGL’s governing the procurement of such work.
- Monitor the timely, accurate and documentation of all operational, routine and preventive maintenance records of work performed in-house or by outside contractors.
- Respond to all calls requesting services related to heat or plumbing issues.
- Become familiar with the BMS, Building Management System and monitor the performance of heating plants at each school each morning.
- Trouble shoot and maintain hot water and condensing boilers systems, low water cutoff switches, condensing and sump pumps; calling in outside service in accordance with in-house boiler contracts with outside agencies.
- Schedule and monitor annual vendor “open, clean, close” boiler maintenance and sign off as complete.
- Perform emergency and routine repairs including preventative maintenance activities.
- Exhibit a willingness to work with the Master Electrician, Staff Carpenter, Custodial Manager and HVAC Tech at various times when required.
- Monitor and schedule preventative maintenance of kitchen grease traps and PH neutralization tanks at the High School.
- Complete other duties as may be deemed necessary by the Director or the Assistant Director of Facilities that are in the best interest of the District operation.
Qualifications:
- Candidates must have extensive experience in the following areas:
- Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the capacity of this job description as the lead master plumber.
- Qualified in the operation, maintenance and repair of plumbing and heating systems in an industrial or institutional setting.
- Demonstrated qualifications in the replacement and connection of pluming piping.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve plumbing and heating related issues.
- Ability to utilize the BMS System currently ALC Controls.
- Ability to work from oral and written instructions, blue prints and schematics.
- Must have a current Massachusetts Master Plumbing License, gas license a plus.
- Must possess a current and valid state-issued driver’s license.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background screening (CORI) check and be finger printed.
- Have a demonstrated ability to work as an integral part of a professional team or co-workers.
- Must have own pick-up truck in good working order.
- Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to lift and move a minimum of 45 lbs.
- Required to work at various heights or in narrow spaces to service equipment.
- Required to stand for long prolonged periods.
- Exposure to high noise levels.
- Occasionally required to wear protective clothing.
- Occasionally required to work out of doors in inclement weather.
- Must be available to respond to emergency calls after hours.
- Requires travel between building locations within the town.
- Availability to work overtime, including weekends as necessary.
- Good verbal and written skills.
- Basic computer skills for communicating, entering work order information and periodic maintenance activities.
- Ability to tactfully communicate with building principals and occupants in a courteous and friendly manner.
WORK YEAR:
- 261 work days, 7.5 hour/day non-contractual position
- 3 personal days, 12 sick days, 15 vacation days prorated pursuant to date of hire
- 14+ paid holidays

Compensation:
- Annual salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
- Vehicle allowance of $350/month
- Annual clothing allowance $350
- Mileage reimbursement for in-town travel $0.50/mile.
